Slapshot Cup Tournament
Official Rules

All players are encouraged to be registered with USA Hockey before they are permitted to play. All player rosters must be submitted prior to the start of the tournament (one hour and thirty minutes before the first game).

USA Hockey rules apply.

Three minute warm-up. One minute intermissions. Three 15 minute runtime periods. Stop time the last three minutes of the third period within a one goal game only.

The times of the games are to keep everyone on time. Games can start 10 minutes early so make sure the team is on time and early for every game. Nobody will be kicked off for curfew. The game will follow this format under all circumstances.

2 points for a win. 1 point for a tie.
1st tiebreaker – Head to head
2nd tiebreaker – Fewest goals against
3rd tiebreaker – Total fewest penalty minutes
4th tiebreaker – Prior to the tournament an undisclosed tiebreaker will be in an envelope.

Minor penalties are two minutes running time. Major penalties are five minutes running time. Misconduct penalties are 10 minutes running time.

Fighting will result in a possible game misconduct and a possible game suspension. (Referee’s discretion and Tournament Committee’s oversight)

Penalty times begin when the puck is dropped after the penalty is called. (Clock will be stopped when there are ongoing discussions about penalties or long scrums)

Slapshots are permitted.

Body checking is not permitted.

The center red line will be used for icing purposes only. (USA icing rules)

One 30 second timeout is allowed by each team per game.

No player may play on multiple teams within the same division. Example: a player playing in 35 C/D can not play on another 35 C/D team. All players must be approved by Josh or Dave before the tournament starts at the team registration process upon arrival. Which is as follows:

“Team Registration Process”:

All team players and team managers must check in and register the team 1.5 hrs before the first game. Teams are allowed to register up to 18 skaters and 3 goalies. (When in doubt – put the player on the roster.)

No player may be registered/rostered on multiple teams within the same division. The team “check-in” and registration process will act as the final official roster and from this point forward no team may add any players at any time for any reason. NO EXCEPTIONS!

All player driver’s licenses will be checked at this time. If the player arrives late or can only make the second or third or championship game the license must still be checked before the player can play. No Exceptions. The team manager will have registered the late player at the “Team Registration Process”  (When in doubt – put the player on the roster). If your team is caught with a player that’s underage or playing on multiple teams in the same division or not registered properly, the team is subject to forfeit. Be ready to play for as early as 9:10am on Friday and as late at 8:50pm Sunday. Teams that would like to “make-their-own-schedule” may attain this privilege with an additional cost (only 3 teams per weekend, first come first serve, deposit + fee – please email us for details).

Championship game in overtime: Three minute stop time 3 on 3. If still tied a 3 man shootout will take place to determine the winner. (North American rules)
